FMU Soccer Team to host Passionately Pink for the Cure™ Day, Oct. 19

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University men’s soccer team will participate in the Passionately Pink for the Cure™ program, Thursday, Oct. 19, when the Patriots play host to St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

The match will begin at 4 p.m. on the FMU Soccer Field. Admission is free.

FMU’s Zeta Tau Alpha sorority has also joined in on this effort and will have a table set up at the field with educational information regarding breast cancer awareness and education. Donations will be taken during the match with all contributions going to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Souvenirs and the pink commemorative t-shirts will be available at the match.

Both Francis Marion and St. Andrews will wear pink warm-up shirts prior to the match.

The Passionately Pink for the Cure™ program has been organized by the Komen Foundation. The Oct. 19 event is being held in conjunction with the observance of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This disease touches millions of lives each year, and in fact, has affected the families of two recent members of the FMU soccer squad. It is expected that more than 41,000 people will die from breast cancer in 2006.

“We are fully behind this important cause,” said FMU head coach Murray Hartzler. “We have seen first-hand the results of breast cancer, and want to do our part in helping to find a cure.”
