FMU’s Rivas Named PBC “Player of the Week”

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University freshman forward Juan Rivas has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer “Offensive Player of the Week” for the opening portion of the 2007 season (ending Sept. 4).

Rivas, a native of Clearwater, Fla., tallied four goals in three matches after joining the Patriot starting line-up. He scored twice in a 2-0 road win at Queens University of Charlotte, and scored both FMU’s goals in 2-1 losses to Belmont Abbey College and Pfeiffer University.

Six of Rivas’ eight shots this season have been on goal, and he currently leads the Peach Belt in goals scored and total points.

The 1-3-0 Patriots are in the midst of a five-match road swing and played at Barton College on Tuesday night (Sept. 5).

Rivas is a product of Countryside High School, where he played on the 2006 Florida Class 6A state championship squad.
