FMU Soccer Team to host Passionately Pink for the Cure™ Day, Oct. 17
FLORENCE, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, the Francis Marion University men’s soccer team will participate in the Passionately Pink for the Cure™ program, Wednesday, Oct. 17, when the Patriots play host to USC Aiken.
The match will begin at 4 p.m. on the FMU Soccer Field. Admission is free. Fans attending the match are encouraged to wear pink. Pink commemorative t-shirts are available for $12 if ordered by calling 843-661-1241 before Oct. 5.
FMU’s Zeta Tau Alpha sorority has again joined in on this effort and will have a table set up at the field with educational information regarding breast cancer awareness and education. McLeod Regional Medical Center is also assisting in the event.
Donations will be taken during the match with all contributions going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization. Souvenirs will be available at the match. Francis Marion will wear pink warm-up shirts prior to the Peach Belt Conference match.
The Passionately Pink for the Cure™ program has been organized by Komen for the Cure, and the Oct. 17 event is being held in conjunction with the observance of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This disease touches millions of lives each year, including the family of a recent member of the FMU soccer squad. Without a cure, more than one million Americans could die from breast cancer over the next 25 years.
“I thought our first endeavor in this worthwhile effort was well received,” said FMU head coach Kevin Varnado. “We hope this year’s event will be even more successful. Almost everyone has seen first-hand the results of breast cancer, and we want to do our part in helping to find a cure.”
