FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University women's soccer coach Marty Beall has announced the signing of Emily Logan Setzler of Cayce to a national letter of intent to attend FMU and play for the Patriots this fall.
Setzler, a 5-6 forward and midfielder, is a senior at Brookland-Cayce High School, where she played for coaches Lauren Eudy Hudgens and Ken Smith.
As a senior, she tallied 11 goals and 17 assists, while leading the Bearcats to a 21-6 record and a spot in last weekend's AAA state championship match. Despite playing with a knee injury, she scored the lone goal in last week's 1-0 Lower State title match win.
She has earned All-State honors each of the past two years and is a three-time All-Region selection. She helped lead the Bearcats to the 2005 state championship.
"Emily is a very competitive midfielder who works extremely hard every time she steps on the field," Beall said. "We are very excited to have a student-athlete like Emily join our program."
Francis Marion loses five seniors off last season’s 5-9-1 squad that completed its first year of transitioning from NCAA Division II to Division I.
Earlier, Beall announced the signing of six other freshmen, Emily Brandenburg of Martinez, Ga.; Rachel Rubin of Charlotte; Angela Salem of Copley, Ohio; Meagan Sheffler of Middletown, Md.; Kirby Stenard of Cincinnati; and Ashley Van Laethem of Chesapeake, Va., to letters of intent.
