FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s soccer team has announced its 2006 schedule, the Patriots’ second year of transitioning from NCAA Division II to Division I, and the slate is highlighted by road matches at the University of South Carolina and Clemson University.
The Patriots, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Marty Beall, lose only five seniors off last year’s 5-9-1 squad.
FMU will open its fall slate on Aug. 25 at UNC Charlotte. Twelve of the team’s 19 matches will be on the road, including an Aug. 31 trip to Columbia to face the Gamecocks and an Oct. 1 jaunt to face the Clemson women’s team.
The home schedule consists of contests against Charleston Southern University (Sept. 13), Western Carolina University (Sept. 22), East Carolina University (Sept. 24), South Carolina State University (Oct. 13), Coastal Carolina University (Oct. 24), Delaware State University (Oct. 27), and the University of North Florida (Oct. 29).
The Patriots will also play one pre-season exhibition match, Aug. 17 at home against Campbell University.
In its previous 11 seasons, the Patriot program has compiled a 138-55-6 record.
As a team, Francis Marion earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Awards for the 2003-04 and 2004-05 school years.
