FLORENCE, SC – The 10th-ranked Francis Marion University women’s softball team completed the inaugural Eastern Carolina Softball Classic with a 4-1 mark.
FMU defeated Limestone College 6-3, Davis & Elkins College 9-1, Adelphi University 5-0, and Davis & Elkins a second time 3-2 in eight innings. The lone loss was a 2-0 decision to California University (Pa.), a game in which the Patriots left 11 runners on base.
The Patriots are now 27-6, and FMU has won 17 of its last 19 contests.
Outfielder Jessica Birchmeier collected eight hits over the weekend and drove in four runs, while junior shortstop Shannan Tyson had seven hits and two RBIs.
Sophomore southpaw Michaela Wolf (19-4) picked up two pitching wins (and suffered the one loss), while junior Jessie Alesi (2-1) and Melanie Bisek (6-1) each got one victory. Alesi also had three hits and four RBIs.
Francis Marion will host Columbus State University for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on March 25 at 2 p.m.
