May 4, 2008 - The Francis Marion University softball program learned on Sunday (May 4) that it has earned an invitation to the NCAA Division II women’s softball national championships, the first in the program's history. Francis Marion (33-13) will be the fifth seed in the South Atlantic Regional, which will begin on Wednesday in Pembroke, N.C.

May 6, 2008 - “Like father, like son”, or even, “like mother, like son”, either way it’s not surprising that 51% of the voters on Valleebaby.com are predicting that Francis Marion University head softball coach, Stacey Vallee and her husband Greg’s first child will be an athlete. The only question is: will “Baby V”, as the family referred to him while in utero, come out swinging a bat or kicking a soccer ball? “Baby V” was due on April 8. However, the Vallee’s welcomed Ryker Michael Ronald Vallee on April 3 at 3:34 p.m. after a scheduled induction.

April 16, 2008 - Francis Marion University will serve as host for the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament, Friday through Sunday (April 18-20) at the Freedom Florence Recreational Complex. The Patriots enter the double-elimination event as the sixth seed with a 30-11 record. Daily admission will be ages 13 and above $5, ages 6-12 $3, and ages under 6 free.

April 4, 2008 - Francis Marion University head softball coach Stacey Vallee and her husband Greg have announced the birth of Ryker Michael Ronald Vallee, 7 lbs. 11 oz., who joined their family on Thursday, April 3 at 3:34 p.m. Congratulations to the new parents.

March 28, 2008 - The Francis Marion University women's softball team earned its highest national ranking since moving to NCAA affiliation in 1992 when the Patriots moved up four spots to No. 6 in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 poll. The Patriots will play their final regular-season home games on Saturday (March 29) when FMU entertains USC Aiken on Senior Day.

February 29, 2008 - Francis Marion University senior first baseman Monica Wofford has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference women’s softball “Player of the Week” for the week of Feb. 11-17.

February 8, 2008 - The Francis Marion University women’s softball team will open its 2008 season on Saturday (Feb. 9) at the Early Bird Tournament in Aiken, S.C. The Patriots will play the University of Charleston (W.V.) at 1 p.m. and West Virginia Wesleyan College at 3 p.m., both at Aiken’s Citizens Park. FMU will open its home slate on Monday afternoon with a 2 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern State University.

January 28, 2008 - Senior first baseman Monica Wofford (of Myrtle Beach, SC) was recently chosen to the 2008 preseason All-Peach Belt Conference softball team. The team was chosen by the league’s Sports Information Directors and features players from six of the 10 softball-playing schools in the PBC.

November 6, 2007 - Ten members of this past spring’s Francis Marion University softball team – senior infielder Janine Allen, freshman outfielder Kat Beauvais, sophomore outfielder Lakyn Bendle, freshman catcher Jamie Holmes, senior pitcher Jessica Johnson, sophomore infielder Shawn Moore, sophomore outfielder Megan Pangburn, senior outfielder Jenna Sexton, freshman pitcher Michaela Wolf, and junior infielder Monica Wofford – were recently named 2007 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes.

October 4, 2007 - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association recently announced its All-Academic Team listings for the 2007 season, and Francis Marion University was one of 61 NCAA Division II programs to garner recognition – and the only Peach Belt Conference school to be named to the list. The Patriots compiled a 3.470 cumulative grade-point average and were ranked 10th among Division II programs.

April 20, 2007 - The 2007 Peach Belt Conference softball tournament will begin on Friday (April 20) at the Diamond Lakes Regional Park in Hephzibah, Ga. Nine PBC teams will play in the double-elimination tournament for three days vying for the PBC title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Augusta State University is hosting the event.
Francis Marion University enters the tournament as the fourth seed with a 34-14 record.

March 23, 2007 - Sophomore outfielder Stevie Arrand and freshman left-handed pitcher Michaela Wolf represented Francis Marion University on the All-Tournament Team at the South Carolina Fastpitch Classic, which was hosted by USC Upstate last weekend (March 16-18) at the 295 Sports Complex in Spartanburg.

FMU opens its season on Feb. 8 with a road doubleheader against USCA. The Patriots' 48-game schedule includes 10 home doubleheaders and the annual Patriot Invitational Tournament, a three-day 26-team event at the Freedom Florence Softball Complex.

June 1, 2006 - Francis Marion University seniors Mike Greenaway and Jamie Wiggins have been named to the inaugural Peach Belt Conference All-Sportsmanship Team, as announced by PBC commissioner Marvin Vanover this week. One male and one female student-athlete from each of the league’s 11 member schools were placed on the team.

June 1, 2006 - Francis Marion University freshman Shannan Tyson has been named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II All-South Atlantic Region Team. Tyson was named to the first-team as the designated player.
