Monica Wofford
Wofford named to Preseason All-PBC squad

Senior first baseman Monica Wofford was recently chosen to the 2008 preseason All-Peach Belt Conference softball team. The team was chosen by the league’s Sports Information Directors and features players from six of the 10 softball-playing schools in the PBC.

Wofford, a native of Myrtle Beach, batted .345 in 49 games last season with 32 runs scored, nine doubles, two home runs, and 24 runs batted in. She was awarded first base a school-record 20 times after being hit by a pitch, a tally that ranked second nationally in NCAA Division II. She also compiled a .453 slugging percentage, a .462 on-base percentage (8th best in the PBC), and a .962 fielding percentage.

She owns the FMU career mark for hit-by-pitches at 42, which is third highest in Division II history. She has been named an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete each of the past two seasons.

Wofford is a former All-State performer at Myrtle Beach High School.

FMU opens its season on Feb. 9 with a pair of games at the Early Bird Tournament in Aiken, S.C.
