FMU's Tyson Named to All-Region Softball Team
FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University freshman Shannan Tyson has been named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II All-South Atlantic Region Team.

Tyson was named to the first-team as the designated player. In five of the past six years, FMU has placed a player on the All-Region first team.

Tyson, a 5-8 native of Seminole, Fla., batted a team-leading .379 this past season. She compiled 22 runs scored, eight doubles, one home run, and 14 runs batted in from her lead-off spot. She also recorded a .395 on-base percentage and a .457 slugging percentage.

During the 2006 campaign, she hit safely in 30 of 39 games and had 14 multi-hit contests, including a pair of four-hit performances.
She hit an amazing .482 in Peach Belt Conference contests, and several weeks ago was selected to the All-PBC squad.

Tyson helped lead Francis Marion to a 27-16 record and a sixth-place finish during the Peach Belt regular season. The Patriots narrowly missed earning an invitation to the NCAA Division II national tournament.

Tyson is a former All-Conference, All-County, and All-Suncoast selection at Seminole High School.
