Correll picked as FMU softball assistant
FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University women’s softball head coach Stacey Johnson Vallee has announced that Emily Correll of Newton, Ill., has joined the Patriot staff as an assistant coach.

Correll will assist in on-field coaching, serve as first base coach, and help in the areas of recruiting and academics.

She spent this past spring as an assistant coach at Chattahoochee Valley Community College.

She is a recent graduate of Columbus State University, where she earned her team’s Defensive Award as a senior. In two seasons at CSU, Correll batted .337 in 98 games with 64 runs scored, 57 runs batted in, and a .399 on-base percentage. She helped lead the Cougars to a two-year mark of 68-31, while playing both third base and shortstop.

She played her first two years at North Florida Community College, where she earned her squad’s most valuable player award as a sophomore.

She previously worked as a summer instructor at the Jasper County Boys and Girls Park in Newton, and as a volunteer ASA coach.

Francis Marion lost only one senior from its 2006 squad that finished 27-16. For the third straight year, the Patriots narrowly missed earning a bid to the NCAA Division II national tournament.
