FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior first baseman Janine Allen has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference women’s softball “Player of the Week” for the week of April 1-8.
Allen, a 5-9 native of Lilburn, Ga., batted .545 last week in four games. She scored six runs, and five of her six hits were for extra bases, including three home runs. She drove in nine runs in the four contests, while posting a 1.545 slugging percentage.
She helped lead FMU to a 2-2 week by homering twice and driving in seven runs during a doubleheader sweep of Lander University on April 6. Her two home runs in the twinbill’s opening game tied a PBC record.
For the season, she is batting .314 with 34 runs scored, seven home runs, and 36 RBIs.
Francis Marion is 32-12 overall and ranked 24th in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 poll.
She previously earned the PBC’s weekly award once in 2006.
Allen is a product of Brookwood High School.
