Columbus, GA - Francis Marion and Columbus State locked in pair of intense battles on Sunday at the Blackmon Tennis Complex. When it was all said and done the #25 Patriot men and the #15 Patriot women had taken a pair of 5-4 Peach Belt Conference wins over CSU.

In men's action, FMU earned a pivotal point at #2 doubles when Dananjaya Mayadunne and Dilshod Sharifi squeaked past Frank Suarez and Paul Van Rensburg 9-8 to give the Patiots a 2-1 advantage heading to singles. The two squads split the six singles matches 3-3 with CSU taking wins at numbers one, four, and five. Suarez had the biggest win for CSU, knocking off 20th-ranked Franklyn Emmanuel 6-2, 6-4 at number one. The deciding match came at number three as Sharifi outlasted Van Rensburg 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

In the women's match, everything came down to number six singles as CSU's Lindsey Groenewald and FMU's Magda Jezovicova locked up in a marathon match which did not end until almost 5 PM. Jezovicova outlasted G roenewald 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to give her team the 5-4 win. FMU had taken a 2-1 lead after winning matches at numbers two and three doubles. Agata Polcyn and Groenewald, ranked 19th in the nation, pulled off a big upset at #1 doubles as they defeated #7 Jenny Ludwig and Sarka Vitkova 8-2. CSU then took singles wins at number two, number three, and number five. Roxana Dondera pulled off a mild upset for the Lady Cougars as she defeated #24 Sarka Vitkova 6-0, 6-4.
