Lombardi Named PBC Volleyball Player of the Week

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior outside hitter Jessica Lombardi has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference women’s volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 24-30.

The Massillon, Ohio, native averaged 5.33 kills, 3.00 digs, 0.67 blocks, and 0.58 service aces per game in three matches last week as the Patriots went 2-1. She recorded only one reception error in 67 total receptions, and in 66 total serve attempts she registered seven aces with only four errors. 

Lombardi had 18 kills and 12 digs in a win over St. Andrews Presbyterian College, a career-high 31 kills and 14 digs in a tough five-game loss to Armstrong Atlantic State University, and finished the week with a 15 kill, 10 dig performance in a three-game sweep of Augusta State University.

For the season, the 5-11 junior has a team-high 13 double-doubles (kills/digs). She leads the Peach Belt with a 3.69 kills per game average and stands ninth in service aces per game (0.41) and 12th in hitting percentage (.208).

The 7-15 Patriots will participate in the Lees-McRae College Invitational Tournament, this Friday and Saturday in Banner Elk, N.C.   FMU’s next home match will be Oct. 10 against local-rival Coker College at 7 p.m.

Lombardi is a former All-Federal League selection and Stark County Player of the Year at Jackson High School.
