Community Health Screenings

With the support of several academic departments at Francis Marion University, ARCH provides free health screenings to sites in Marion, Marlboro, and Williamsburg counties.  The screenings occur in churches, housing authority sites, recreation centers, senior citizen's centers and other neighborhood locations.  The screenings are conducted under the direction of Dr. Paul DeMarco, the Director of Rural Community Health with assistance from FMU students.

Screenings consist of the following:

  • Weight, pulse, BMI, blood pressure, and finger stick blood sugar;
  • lab work to assess cholesterol and kidney function;
  • referral information for patients with no medical provider or no insurance for medications;
  • an education session on topics including healthy eating, increasing activity level, and high blood pressure;
  • medication review and assistance completing Universal Medication form;
  • optional survey to assess the health status of Pee Dee residents;
  • summary package of screening results for patients to take back to their medical provider.
