Daphne Carter is a native of Britton's Neck, South Carolina; located in Rural Marion County. Her Hobbies include piano, traveling abroad, and student advising. Ms. Carter received a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Communications and a minor in Business Administration with honors from Clemson University in 2005 and completed a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University in 2007.
During her seven-year academic career, Daphne has traveled abroad to various cities in Scotland, United Kingdom; and Ghana, West Africa. During her time in Scotland, she visited five Scottish universities and studied aspects of higher education in the United Kingdom and how it related to current trends in the United States. Particular research was conducted on financial aid, college enrollment, access and affordability. In Ghana, she explored past and present African experiences and traditions through service learning projects, community lectures, and tours throughout the country. Analytical notes were placed on the governmental, economic, and educational system throughout Ghana.
Among Ms. Carter's professional affiliations and awards include membership in NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators), NAFSA (Association of International Educators), ACPA (American College Personnel Association), FMU-AAFSC (Francis Marion University African American Faculty and Staff Coalition) and membership in the (GMS) Gates Millennium Scholarship Foundation as a graduate scholar and mentor.
In her professional career, Daphne serves as the Assistant Dean of Students at Francis Marion University as well as the faculty advisor for the FMU Chapter of NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Council). Daphne also aids in administering Access and Equity funds in the form of educational programs and scholarships and maintains the Division of Student Affairs website. The philosophy that she takes with her each day is to, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
