Staff Profile - Daphne Carter-McCants

Dr. Daphne Carter-McCants is a native of Britton's Neck, South Carolina; located in rural Marion County. Her Hobbies include piano, traveling abroad, and student advising. Dr. McCants received a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Communications and a minor in Business Administration with honors from Clemson University in 2005, completed a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University in 2007, and earned a Doctorate of Philosophy Degree in Education from Capella University in 2012.

In her professional career, Dr. McCants serves as the Assistant Dean of Students at Francis Marion University. Her current research interests include student access, retention, and financial aid. Daphne has traveled abroad to various cities in Scotland, United Kingdom; and Ghana, West Africa. Particular research was conducted in each country on financial aid, college enrollment, access and affordability.

Dr. McCants teaches a University Life course, aids in administering retention-based programs, and advises several student organizations including all incoming international students. In addition, Daphne has presented at the South Carolina College Personnel Association conference.

Among Dr. McCants' professional affiliations and awards include membership in NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators), NAFSA (Association of International Educators), ACPA (American College Personnel Association), SCCPA (South Carolina College Personnel Association), FMU-AAFSC (Francis Marion University African American Faculty and Staff Coalition) and membership in the (GMS) Gates Millennium Scholarship Foundation as a graduate scholar and mentor.
