Dr. Anna Caroline Chinnes is a Licensed Psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychology. She completed her undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. She then received her M.S. in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Psychology Ph.D. degrees from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Her dissertation research focused on measuring aspects of happiness and anxiety, both contributing to the literature in these areas and examining evidence of discriminant validity for future research and applied clinical and community purposes. Throughout this time and afterwards, she gained applied clinical experiences in a variety of settings with diverse populations, presenting problems, and ages from childhood to adults. Her clinical approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and at times use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Parent Management Training, Habit Reversal Training, Exposure Response Prevention, Trauma-Focused CBT, and mindfulness components as necessary. Her overall research interests include focuses on anxiety, mental health, positive psychology, and psychological well-being. She enjoys being a member of the FMU community and psychology faculty to be able to give back to the local community in areas such as teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, research, applied clinical work, supervision, and community service and advocacy.
