Dr. Joel Heffler has been a licensed clinical psychologist for over forty-years.  He received his BS from the University of Alabama, and his MA and Ph.D. from Georgia State University.  Over the years he has taught at Columbia College, Francis Marion University, University of South Carolina, Florida State University, Coastal Carolina University, Georgia State University, Webster University, Mercer University, and MUSC.  He was the director of a mental health center, director of a hospital EAP, and was a regional psychology supervisor for the Department of Juvenile Justice.  He was active in the SC Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association (Life-Member), the Academy of Behavioral Medicine, Society for Teachers in Family Medicine, the American Academy of Pain Management,  and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.  In 1993 he received the award for Outstanding Service to Psychology from the SC Psychological Association.  He was often on TV and radio, presented at national conferences, had a private practice for over 30 years, and now teaches part-time for FMU and evaluates teenagers occasionally for the Department of Juvenile Justice.
