Faculty Attend IAU Conference in Rwanda
Drs. Todd Coach, Erica Johnson, and Louis Venters attended the International Association of Universities (IAU) International Conference in Kigali, Rwanda this past October. The conference’s theme, “Building Trust in Higher Education,” brought together experts and leaders from higher education institutions from around the world.
Dr. Todd Couch and Dr. Erica Johnson, both Co-Directors for the African and African American Studies program at FMU, as well as Dr. Louis Venters, Professor of History, were selected by Dr. Carter to attend the conference and gain insight about growing global concerns and trends in higher education. During the conference our faculty attended several breakout sessions that discussed students and community expectations from HE , AI and how to shape it to enhance personalized learning and research, and global collaboration between HE institutions.

Francis Marion University became an official member of the IAU in 2022. Since joining the association, faculty from FMU have attended various IAU conferences and sponsored events, such as The Times Higher Ed Global Sustainable Development Congress conferences in Saudi Arabia and Thailand, as well as the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France.
