FMU ranked by U.S. News & World Report for over two decades

Francis Marion University has once again been named one of the top Regional Universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report. FMU has earned a place on this prestigious list for more than two decades, a consistent recognition of the University’s academic quality and value.
This year, FMU was honored in five different categories: Top Regional Universities (54), Top Public Schools (28), Best Value Schools (20), Top Performers on Social Mobility (25), and Best Colleges for Veterans (27).
Four of FMU’s undergraduate academic programs also received national recognition: business, engineering, nursing, and psychology. Each of these programs was highlighted for excellence in its field, marking the second consecutive year that all four programs earned this distinction.
“Francis Marion is once again honored to be recognized among the best universities in the South,” said FMU President Fred Carter. “This distinction reaffirms what we have long known – FMU is a wonderful place to earn an outstanding education. It is a testament to the strength of our faculty and the accomplishments of our students.”
To conduct the annual rankings, U.S. News & World Report divides schools into categories with FMU classified as a regional university, a school that provides a full range of undergraduate majors and graduate-level programs. This category, with 590 institutions, is the largest category.
Specialty ranking areas, such as program categories, include universities of all sizes and classifications within a single ranking. Colleges and universities in all categories are ranked using data that reflects academic excellence and various other aspects of university life.
