Francis Marion University recognized as a 2025 Great Colleges to Work For® thirteen years in a row

Francis Marion University has been named to the Great Colleges to Work For® list for the thirteenth year in a row. Universities are recognized on this prestigious list based on survey results administered to employees.

The results, released in a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 199 colleges and universities. Only 76 of those institutions achieved the “Great College to Work For” recognition for best practices and policies.

FMU won honors in nine categories:

  1. Job Satisfaction & Support
  2. Compensation & Benefits
  3. Professional Development
  4. Mission & Pride
  5. Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness
  6. Confidence in Senior Leadership
  7. Faculty & Staff Well-being
  8. Shared Governance
  9. Faculty Experience

In addition, FMU was named to the Great Colleges Honor Roll for the twelfth year. This distinction is only granted to 42 institutions each year who are highlighted most across the recognition categories.

ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm, administered the survey and analyzed the results. The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition is the employee feedback.

“For over a dozen years, Francis Marion has been honored by its inclusion on the Great Colleges to Work For® list,” said FMU President Fred Carter. “We are especially proud to once again earn a place on the Honor Roll and to receive top ratings in nine categories. This honor highlights FMU not only as an outstanding workplace, but also an exceptional place for our students to learn and grow.”

The Great Colleges to Work For® program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. Recognized institutions are announced in The Chronicle of Higher Education and on the Great Colleges program website at GreatCollegesList.com.
