Description: An exploration of the fundamentals of quantitative, population, and molecular genetics in plants. Largely using horticultural crop species as model organisms, we will explore historical and contemporary plant breeding and improvement techniques. Topics will include the inheritance of qualitative and quantitative traits, breeding strategies in context of plant life history characteristics, biotechnology in crop improvement, and plant domestication.
