BIOL 306-CE – Biology of Cancer

Roughly 40% of Americans will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Chances are you know someone who has had this diagnosis. This course is designed to provide a broad understanding of cancer, including the molecular mechanisms of cancer, different types of cancer, some of the causes of cancer and current treatment options. We will also hold class discussions about the history of our understanding of cancer and the ethics involved in cancer treatment. Readings will include primary cancer biology literature, nonfiction books, and current news articles. The laboratory portion of this class will focus on current molecular techniques that are used by researchers in the cancer biology field.
