CHEM 202 – Organic Chemistry II

Prerequisites/Corequisites: Take CHEM 201. (Required, Previous).
Credit Hours: Min: 4; Max:

Description: The structure, properties, synthesis, and reactions of additional classes of organic compounds and their characterization. Molecules studied include alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers, thiols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, acyl halides, esters, amides, anhydrides, amines, carbohydrates, amino acids, and proteins. The lab includes the synthesis and characterization of several classes of organic compounds, with emphasis on the use of IR, NMR, and UV-Vis spectroscopies and mass spectrometry. Use of the chemical literature is reinforced.
