Description: Examines Western and Non-Western literature ranging from 2300 B.C.E. to 1650 C.E. Students will study texts from Rome, Greece, Africa, China, and Japan within their historical, social, and cultural contexts. Topics to be discussed include the oral tradition, the epic, intertextuality, and the relationship between religion and literature.
