Description: History of the nations of Eastern Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries, with emphasis on the past 100 years. Major topics include the peoples of Eastern Europe, the Russian Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the collapse of the empires in World War I, Communist revolution in Russia, new states in Eastern Europe, Stalin's regime, impact of World War II, the Soviet Union and its East European Empire, and the collapse of Communism. One 100-level history course or permission of department is prerequisite to all history courses above the 299 level.
