Description: Study of the origins and development of the Constitution from the early 1600s until 1900. Topics that will be covered will be the foundations of constitutional law, the issue of sovereignty, the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, the Constitutional Convention of 1787, the emergence of different interpretations of the Constitution, states' rights, slavery, secession, Reconstruction, the rights of workers, and segregation. One 100-level history course or permission of department is prerequisite to all history courses above the 299 level.
