Description: This course covers basic principles of genetics and molecular function at the cellular level and the application of these principles to primary care. The discussions include the structure of a gene, the human genome, the regulation of gene expression, the role of genetics in medicine, genetic basis of human disease, application of clinical genetics therapies, and ethical and legal considerations. This course provides a strong foundation in the concepts underlying health and disease at both the individual and population levels. The students will learn to recognize and use guidelines for preventive care and disease screening.
