Public Access

The Freshwater Ecology Complex is excited to offer opportunities for the public to visit our new facilities. Public access to our fishing lake and nature trails is finally available! Come appreciate and enjoy these natural spaces, which offer a captivating blend of aquatic and terrestrial environments.

*Access gates are locked at the closing times above. Failure to leave premises before closing may result in becoming locked in.

*Closed during University Holidays

GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS

  • Park only in designated areas.
  • Share the trail. Please be courteous and respectful of others enjoying nature.
  • Trails are only for foot/wheelchair use.
  • Enjoy the plants and wildlife but leave them undisturbed.
  • The property is used as a laboratory for FMU students. Please do not disturb any scientific studies in progress.
  • To prevent disturbing wildlife/scientific studies, pets are not permitted, unless they are a service animal.
  • Help us keep the area pristine and clean by using the trash cans at the trailhead and fishing area.
  • For the safety of our students and researchers, hunting is not permitted, and the possession or use of alcohol, drugs, or weapons is prohibited.
  • Swimming and boating on the lake are not permitted.

The FEC offers a variety of trails designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to explore and connect with the natural environment. Public Fishing Access

The fishing lake at the FEC support a delicate balance of fish species, including Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, and more. Below find everything you need to take advantage of our public access fishing lake. Please register before you come for the first time, and adhere to all rules and regulations during your visit.

Daily Catch Limits

  • Daily limit for Largemouth Bass creel is 5 fish per day/per person and must be 14" minimum length.
  • Daily limit for Bream (Bluegill & Redear) creel is 15 fish per day/per person and no minimum length.
  • Daily limit for Channel Catfish creel is 3 fish per day/per person and no minimum length.
