WHAT TO EXPECT

The campers will spend the week rotating between several fun and engaging STEM activities.  These will include:

  • Observing nature and nature journaling: Learn how to be a nature detective and learn about the natural world. Campers will observe nature, create a nature journal to document their experiences, then practice those skills observing insects, building a terrarium and observing insects in their habitat.

  • Bird explorers. Using birds, campers will learn about food webs and adaptations.  Fun activities help demonstrate how beaks are adapted for specific foods.  Campers will get to dissect an owl pellet to help construct a food web.
  • STEM design challenges.  Campers will compete in two design challenges.  Who can make the best puff car and straw hoop airplane?  Campers learn about the design process.

  • Animals and water. Explore the underwater world. Camper will learn how why fish are different colors and how light is different underwater by designing lures for different depth.  Campers will also explore what macroinvertebrates can tell us about water quality.

Please be advised that the camp curriculum will include a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, with the outdoor activities involving exposure to heat, sun, insects, etc.  Please make sure your camper is comfortable being both inside and outside and dresses appropriately.
