ELIGIBILITY

FMU Honors encourages application by first year students who are well-rounded, academically accomplished and involved in their schools or communities, and understands that aptitude and potential can be measured in many ways.  Candidates may therefore submit information they think best describes them, including any combination of their ACT or SAT scores, high school grade point average and class rank, or may speak to their participation in Honors, IB or AP courses, extracurricular activities, athletics or volunteerism.

Current FMU students are eligible if they have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25.

Transfer students are eligible if they have achieved a 3.25 cumulative GPA from their previous institution, or if they are a member in good standing of their previous institution’s NCHC-affiliated Honors program.  Note that no more than twelve (12) credit hours from other institutions may be applied for FMU Honors credit.  All transfer Honors credit must be approved by the Director of FMU Honors.

 PROCESS

Students apply for FMU Honors by submitting a completed application and a personal essay.  Some students may be granted provisional acceptance without benefit of a probationary semester.  Applications are accepted at any time, though because the freshman cohort is limited, freshmen are encouraged to apply before July 1.

 HOUSING

First year students accepted into FMU Honors are eligible to live in FMU Residence Halls. Others may request the Forest Villas Apartments.  If you would like to reserve an Honors room, check the appropriate box on the FMU Housing application and/or contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 843.661.1330 or housing@fmarion.edu.  For more information visit housing.
