Description: This course is an overview of reading-related theories, skills and instructional practices. Teacher candidates will receive an introduction to the five essential components of reading; phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Home/school connections, diversity and the role of professional development will be emphasized throughout the course.
