FMU to host annual MLK celebration January 11

Francis Marion University will host its 25th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on campus Thursday, January 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Chapman Auditorium.

 

This year’s keynote speaker will be Senator Mia McLeod. The program will be emceed by members of the FMU Student Government Association and the Campus Activities Board. The event will also include vocal selections by the Young Gifted and Blessed Gospel Choir and Jocelyn Franks, Miss FMU 2023, along with FMU student artist Allison Ziegenfelder.

 

Senator McLeod represents Senate District 22 and serves on the Judiciary, Medical Affairs, Rules, Corrections & Penology, and Family & Veteran’s Services committees. She has been recognized as one of South Carolina’s “Top 20 Under 40,” was named Legislator of the Year by the South Carolina School Improvement Council, and received the SC Chamber’s Business Advocate Award. She was also a recipient of the prestigious John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award® in 2023 along with a bipartisan group of female senators. McLeod earned her both her undergraduate and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of South Carolina.
