FMU’s Engineering programs receive national recognition

Francis Marion University’s burgeoning Engineering programs were recently lauded in the 2020 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges.”

The magazine named the Engineering programs as some of the top in the county.

FMU’s Industrial and Mechanical Engineering programs are respectively young – the first students in the University’s Industrial Engineering program began matriculating in 2014, and Mechanical in 2020 – but they’re becoming well known throughout educational circles as some of the best available.

The two programs evolved from FMU’s strident goal of responding to the needs of the Pee Dee’s industry base by producing engineers whose education is patterned to meet the demands of the modern manufacturing environment.

The demand for mechanical engineers in South Carolina is expected to outpace the national demand through the next decade, according to statistics from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, and national job growth in the field is projected to be at least as strong as overall job growth.
