University Place Gallery to host multimedia exhibition

University Place Gallery, FMU’s art gallery in downtown Florence, will host an intriguing multimedia exhibition beginning this week.

Titled “Dust and Shadow,” the exhibition by artist Anna G. Dean will opened on March 16 and will close on April 23. In her latest work, Dean investigates the fine line between order and chaos in the natural and manmade world.

The sprawling exhibition includes large scale steel sculptures, installations, digital video, and mixed media paintings, as well as motion graphics and may not be suitable for individuals who are light sensitive.

Dean is currently an artist-in-residence at the McColl Center in Charlotte, N.C., where she is working with the staff of Atrium Health and investigating COVID as part of a new body of work. She graduated from Francis Marion University in 2000 with her B.A. in Art Education, and recently received her Master’s in Fine Arts from Winthrop University.

The University Place Gallery is located within FMU’s University Place building, located at 142 N. Dargan Street in the former L.S. Rainwater Building and is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m.
