FMU School of Education faculty and students bring the classroom online

Francis Marion School of Education students and faculty may be outside of their normal classroom environments, but their eagerness to teach persists.

Dr. Jeanne Gunther, associate professor of Education and coordinator of FMU’s Early Childhood Education Program, is providing a venue for that enthusiasm through the creation of a YouTube channel that hosts FMU students and faculty reading children’s books.

The channel, titled Storytime with Dr. Gunther and FMU Students, is aimed at students in area schools with the purpose of providing them with a way to engage with texts and familiar faces while they continue their education from home.

Some of the FMU School of Education students are familiar faces to newly home-bound elementary, preschool and kindergarten students, which provides a valued level of continuity for the students and viewers, even though they area outside of the classroom.

Twenty-seven videos have been loaded to the channel by faculty and students, and more are being added daily.
