HCA Minor and Collateral

Open to all majors and anyone planning a career in healthcare or public health. The courses required will cover content that is specifically required for eligibility for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential from the National Commission for Higher Education Credentialing (NCHEC).

The HCA department offers a Minor and a Collateral in Healthcare Administration for students majoring in other fields who seek to broaden their knowledge in understanding population-level health and well-being. Due to the development of more graduate programs in the healthcare and public health fields being offered and the competitiveness of the healthcare/public health industry, the HCA department aims to provide students with an option to declare a Minor or Collateral in Healthcare Administration. This option allows students who are planning on pursing graduate programs in healthcare related fields such as Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant and Physical Therapy to increase their competencies, making them eligible for industry credentials and enhancing their applications for graduate programs and employment in the public health field. The courses required for the HCA Minor and Collateral will cover content that is specifically required for eligibility for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential from the National Commission for Higher Education Credentialing (NCHEC), which is increasingly included on job descriptions, as either a requirement or preferred skill, within the public health field.
