FMU’s South Carolina Chamber Music Festival to return February 23
Francis Marion University will host the 14th annual South Carolina Chamber Music Festival Monday, February 23 – Friday, February 27. All performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center’s Black Box Theatre.
This year’s festival will feature artists including vocalist Kirstin Chavez, pianists Paolo Andre Gualdi and Irina Pevzner, violinists Anastasia Petrunina and Terris Roberts, cellists Gabriel Martin and Viktor Uzur, and percussionist Denis Petrunin.
The festival begins with mezzo-soprano Chavez, an internationally celebrated vocalist known for her dramatic intensity, who will present an all-French program, AMOUR! An evening of French Music, on Monday, February 23. She will be accompanied by Paolo Andre Gualdi, professor of music at FMU.
ViMaDeAn Experience – Sound in Motion featuring violinist Anastasia Petrunina and percussionist Denis Petrunin will bring contemporary chamber music to the festival during a concert on Tuesday, February 24.
Carolina Connections: International Artists from Our Home State will be presented on Wednesday, February 25. This tribute to South Carolina will feature Irina Pevzner on piano and Gabriel Martin on cello. The duo will bring Beethoven, Dvorak, and a brand-new work by Ashley Henry, FMU instructor of music, to life.
The Festival will conclude on Friday, February 27, with Depths of the Soul: the Sonatas of Shostakovich and Franck presented by cellist Viktor Uzur. Uzur has been praised for his razor-sharp virtuosity and expressive range, which brings clarity and intensity to his performance.
Tickets are $10 for the general public and are available at the FMU PAC Ticket Office at 201 South Dargan Street, Monday through Friday, 12:00pm – 5:00pm, or by calling 843-661-4444. FMU students, faculty, and staff are admitted at no charge upon showing an FMU ID.
