Munn Named Dean of FMU’s School of Business

Francis Marion University has named Dr. Johnathan Munn as the Dean of its School of Business.

Munn joined the faculty of FMU in 2008. He was appointed Associate Dean of the School of Business in 2016 and named the Henry Booker Sparrow Chair of Economics and Economics Forecasting in 2017. He teaches courses such as Contemporary Issues in Business, Economic Analysis, Money and Banking, and Urban and Regional Economics.

Munn earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Clemson University in 2001 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the University of South Carolina in 2008. His primary research has been focused on regional and urban economics, innovation, and health economics.

FMU President Fred Carter says the School of Business will benefit from Munn’s leadership.

“Johnathan has been a dedicated member of FMU’s faculty for over 15 years,” says Carter. “His integrity, thoughtful leadership, and commitment to students and colleagues make him exceptionally qualified for this position. He is an exceptional teacher and a prolific scholar. He’ll serve the university well in this new role.”

“I’m excited by the opportunity to serve as Dean of the School of Business,” says Munn. “As someone who grew up in the Pee Dee, I understand the importance of the university to the region. I’m honored to give back to a community that has given so much to me, and I’m grateful for the confidence President Carter and my colleagues have placed in me to continue that work in this new role.”
