May 15, 2008 - HOUSTON, TX – Sophomore third baseman Kat Beauvais’ two-out single scored Monica Wofford in the bottom of the 14th inning and lifted Francis Marion University to a 1-0 win over third-ranked Barry University, Thursday (May 15) in an elimination game at the NCAA Division II Women’s Softball National Finals.

May 14, 2008 - HOUSTON, TX – Right-hander Sarah Mueller tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Ferris State University to a 2-0 win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday (May 14) in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Softball National Finals.

May 10, 2008 - PEMBROKE, NC – Senior first baseman Monica Wofford hit a two-run double and sophomore left-hander Michaela Wolf tossed a four-hit shutout as Francis Marion University blanked North Georgia College & State University 3-0, Saturday afternoon (May 10) in the “First” championship game of the NCAA Division II Women’s Softball South Atlantic Regional.

May 10, 2008 - PEMBROKE, NC – Senior first baseman Monica Wofford drilled a solo home run and her two-run single in the sixth inning erased a one-run deficit and gave Francis Marion University a 5-4 win over Armstrong Atlantic State University, Saturday afternoon (May 10) in an elimination game at the NCAA Division II Women’s Softball South Atlantic Regional.

May 8, 2008 - PEMBROKE, NC - Junior outfielder Lakyn Bendle's squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning plated Nicole Reuter with the winning run as Francis Marion University rallied to defeat top-seeded Carson-Newman College 4-3, Thursday evening (May 8) in the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Softball South Atlantic Regional.

May 7, 2008 - Sophomore left-hander Michaela Wolf tossed a six-hit shutout and pushed home the game’s only two runs with a fifth-inning double as Francis Marion University blanked 25th-ranked Georgia College & State University 2-0 in the opening game of the NCAA Division II Women’s Softball South Atlantic Regional on Wednesday morning (May 7).

May 4, 2008 - The Francis Marion University softball program learned on Sunday (May 4) that it has earned an invitation to the NCAA Division II women’s softball national championships, the first in the program's history. Francis Marion (33-13) will be the fifth seed in the South Atlantic Regional, which will begin on Wednesday in Pembroke, N.C.

May 6, 2008 - “Like father, like son”, or even, “like mother, like son”, either way it’s not surprising that 51% of the voters on Valleebaby.com are predicting that Francis Marion University head softball coach, Stacey Vallee and her husband Greg’s first child will be an athlete. The only question is: will “Baby V”, as the family referred to him while in utero, come out swinging a bat or kicking a soccer ball? “Baby V” was due on April 8. However, the Vallee’s welcomed Ryker Michael Ronald Vallee on April 3 at 3:34 p.m. after a scheduled induction.

April 19, 2008 - Sophomore left-hander Michaela Wolf went 3-for-4, drove in two runs, and pitched six shutout innings to rally sixth-seeded Francis Marion University to a 5-4 win over fifth-seeded Columbus State University in an elimination game at the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Saturday evening (April 19), the team’s third win of the day to stay alive in the tournament. The 18th-ranked Patriots (33-12) won all three of their elimination games on Saturday at Freedom Florence to advance to Sunday’s play and equal their best tournament finish ever.

April 18, 2008 - FLORENCE, SC - Junior right-hander Mandy Chandler pitched a one-hit shutout and Georgia College & State University scored a pair of runs on no hits in the fifth inning to claim a 2-0 win over Francis Marion University, Friday afternoon (April 18) in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament at Freedom Florence.

April 7, 2008 - DAHLONEGA, GA – Sophomore left-hander Michael Wolf pitched a three-hit shutout and outfielder Jessica Birchmeier’s first-inning RBI double gave fifth-ranked Francis Marion University a 1-0 win over North Georgia College & State University in game one of Sunday’s Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader, but the Saints managed a split with a late 3-2 victory in game two.

April 4, 2008 - Francis Marion University head softball coach Stacey Vallee and her husband Greg have announced the birth of Ryker Michael Ronald Vallee, 7 lbs. 11 oz., who joined their family on Thursday, April 3 at 3:34 p.m. Congratulations to the new parents.

March 30, 2008 - FLORENCE, SC – Sophomore outfielder Jessica Birchmeier went 4-for-4 with five runs batted in to lead sixth-ranked Francis Marion University to an 8-0 win in game one, but USC Aiken sophomore right-hander Toni Flessate silenced the Patriot bats with a three-hit 1-0 shutout in game two as the squads split their Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon (March 29).

March 28, 2008 - The Francis Marion University women's softball team earned its highest national ranking since moving to NCAA affiliation in 1992 when the Patriots moved up four spots to No. 6 in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 poll. The Patriots will play their final regular-season home games on Saturday (March 29) when FMU entertains USC Aiken on Senior Day.

March 25, 2008 - Senior right-hander Melanie Bisek scattered seven hits as 10th-ranked Francis Marion University claimed a 4-1 game-two win to salvage a split of Tuesday’s Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader with Columbus State University. CSU’s Sarah Moore drilled a two-run home run over the center field fence in the top of the eighth inning to give the Cougars a 4-2 come-from-behind victory in the opener. Francis Marion senior first baseman Monica Wofford was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning of game one – the 51st time in her career she has been hit by a pitch setting a new NCAA Division II record.

March 17, 2008 - FLORENCE, SC – The 10th-ranked Francis Marion University women’s softball team completed the inaugural Eastern Carolina Softball Classic with a 4-1 mark.

March 13, 2008 - MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – In a battle of the two nationally ranked softball teams in the Peach Belt Conference, each team took one game of the doubleheader, as second-ranked Georgia College & State University (24-4, 3-1 PBC) split the twinbill with 10th-ranked Francis Marion University (23-5, 7-3 PBC) Wednesday at the Peeler Complex. The Lady Bobcats took game one 3-2 in 10 innings, while game two was a 6-3 Patriot win.

March 6, 2008 - GREENWOOD - The No. 18-ranked Francis Marion softball team swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Lander Wednesday afternoon in a makeup game at Doug Spears Field. The Patriots won the first game, 12-2, and the second, 4-3 in extra innings.

February 25, 2008 - SALISBURY, NC -- Francis Marion University swept a softball doubleheader from host Catawba College on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 24) at Whitley Field. The Patriots won by the scores of 9-1 and 7-2 to improve to 12-4 on the season. The Indians fall to 8-4.

February 24, 2008 - Hickory, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne College (11-2) split a softball doubleheader with Francis Marion University (10-4) Saturday afternoon (Feb. 23) at Bears Field in the 2008 Home Opener. The Patriots took the first game 11-10 in eight innings, while the Bears were able to rally in the bottom of the seventh to win game two 7-6.

February 17, 2008 - FLORENCE, SC – Senior first baseman Monica Wofford collected five hits, drove in four runs, and scored three times, while sophomore left-hander Michaela Wolf allowed only eight hits and one unearned run in nine innings as Francis Marion University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Queens University of Charlotte, 14-1 and 9-1, Sunday afternoon (Feb. 17).

February 16, 2008 - FLORENCE, SC – Senior designated hitter Melanie Bisek hit a walk-off two-run home run to give Francis Marion University a 5-3 win over Carson-Newman College and a sweep of their Saturday afternoon (Feb. 16) non-conference softball doubleheader. FMU sophomore left-hander Michaela Wolf pitched a two-hitter and retired the final 18 Lady Eagle batters in order as the Patriots cruised to a 4-0 victory in game one.

February 10, 2008 - AIKEN, SC – Sophomore lefty Michaela Wolf and junior right-hander Jessie Alesi combined to toss a five-hitter and Jessica Birchmeier drilled a three-run homer as Francis Marion University defeated the University of Charleston (W.V.) 6-1 in its season-opening game at the early Bird Tournament in Aiken. However, the Patriots lost their second game 14-6 in a slugfest with West Virginia Wesleyan College.

November 6, 2007 - Ten members of this past spring’s Francis Marion University softball team – senior infielder Janine Allen, freshman outfielder Kat Beauvais, sophomore outfielder Lakyn Bendle, freshman catcher Jamie Holmes, senior pitcher Jessica Johnson, sophomore infielder Shawn Moore, sophomore outfielder Megan Pangburn, senior outfielder Jenna Sexton, freshman pitcher Michaela Wolf, and junior infielder Monica Wofford – were recently named 2007 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes.

August 1, 2007 - Three Francis Marion University student-athletes were recently awarded NCAA Division II Degree-Completion Scholarship Awards for the 2007-08 academic year: cross country runner Megan Coy, softball player Jessica Johnson, and volleyball player Jessica Strader. The three are among 89 recipients nationwide.
