Doug’s Day serves as a worthy celebration of FMU’s first 50 years

Doug’s Day serves as a worthy celebration of FMU’s first 50 years

Dreary weather didn’t some the Francis Marion community from having a great time Thursday night.

Doug’s Day, a founders’ day event celebrating the University’s 50th anniversary, brought thousands of people to campus for food, drinks and a concert by Edwin McCain.

The event was held in the Smith University Center due to the forecast of poor weather, but the venue served as a toasty respite from the elements. The University Center’s gym served as the focal point for the event, with McCain providing a show-stopping performance that was worthy of the University’s 50th anniversary.

Doug’s Day is named after Francis Marion’s founding president, Dr. Doug Smith, but it’s also a celebration of the founding staff and faculty who saw the University through its formative years.
