FMU Holds 48th-Annual Athletic Awards Gala

Francis Marion University recently held its 48th-annual Athletic Awards Gala in the university’s Performing Arts Center.  Most Valuable Player awards were given in 14 sports. A school spirit award, most outstanding cheerleader award, and a student-athlete award were also presented.

  • Most Valuable Player Award for cheerleading / dance – senior Shaquia Johnson  (Darlington, SC)
  • Conyers O’Bryan Most Valuable Player Award for baseball – junior CJ Mackinson  (Sykesville, MD)
  • Most Valuable Player Award for men’s basketball – senior Detrek Browning (Columbia, SC)
  • Carolyn Bishop Frate Most Valuable Player Award for women’s basketball – junior Shaunice Fulmore (Lake City, SC)
  • Men’s Cross Country Most Valuable Player Award – senior Javier Bustos Jaimes (Eagle Springs, NC)
  • Women’s Cross Country Most Valuable Player Award – sophomore Alison Filer (New Castle, PA)
  • Golf Most Valuable Player Award – senior Marc Casullo (Aurora, Ontario, Canada)
  • Men’s Soccer Most Valuable Player Award – senior Levin Sandmann (Heidelberg, Germany)
  • Folly Carter Most Valuable Player Award for women’s soccer – freshman Dayle McEwen (Collinsville, IL)
  • Ashley Lynn Most Valuable Player Award for women’s softball – junior Jaimie Harney  (Hopewell Junction, NY)
  • Men’s Tennis Most Valuable Player Award – freshman Paul Meuwissen (Geilenkirchen, Germany)
  • Gladys Hite Most Valuable Player Award for women’s tennis – senior Marie Krueger (Leverkusen, Germany)
  • Jerry and Jean Lee Track and Field Most Valuable Player for men’s track and field – sophomore Ivan Henderson (Jackson, SC)
  • Women’s Track and Field Most Valuable Player Award – sophomore Jasmine Watson (Florence, SC)
  • Joseph B. Durant Most Valuable Player Award for women’s volleyball – junior Georgia Garrison (Trinity, NC)
  • Ray E. Thames Memorial Raise the Roof Award – senior Arien Seymour (Nassau, Bahamas)
  • Carlanna Hendrick Swamp Fox Academic Award – senior Alessandro Caselli (Vimercate, Italy)

Five of the recipients were repeat honorees: Browning (2016, 2017, 2018 for men’s basketball), Fulmore (2017 and 2018 for women’s basketball), Marie Krueger (2016 and 2018 for women’s tennis), Bustos Jaimes (2017 and 2018 for men’s cross country), and Sandmann (2017 and 2018 for men’s soccer).
